Raised beds were a key element of the design to turn the sad lawn into a fruitful growing space.

A pergola was added, extending the existing patio and re-grouting the original stone slabs. A low cost method that quickly spruces up your garden.

As well as the practical, food-producing element to this garden, new ornamental borders with a cottage-feel were created around the edge to soften the fence and to bring colour and scent to the garden.

Planting a mix of herbaceous perennials would also encourage important pollinators into the garden.

The Process

The original garden’s lawn wasn’t working for the space so was removed and replaced with lower maintenance gravel pathways and raised beds.

The raised beds were laid out prior to installation, as their position was key to the design. The timber was treated with a non-toxic wood treatment that would be safe for growing fruit and veg.
